Batman: Death in The Family
Recently released by IGN a trailer to an upcoming animated series from the DC animated universe. Like most amazing DC animated movies, this new movie is centred around the most iconic Batman story: Death in the Family. If you have seen the trailer, you will notice something different about this trailer's contents.
Unlike other versions of the DC animated film, this one would be doing something different. Instead of watching the movie as always, you will have the power to control the movie. It would be the first time in DC animated film history that the movie would do the same thing that a story line did back in 1988. It lets the viewers control what happens in the movie.
Quick Overview of the Batman History
During the late 80's, it was decided that the original Robin was going to become his series in the Night-wing. It leads to the introduction of him as a Teen Titan's leader, which was published in 1984.
It left a massive gap in the dynamic duo since people wanted to see more of Robin and Batman. They were not satisfied with Batman alone. It leads to the introduction of a second Robin, a troubled kid who took the risk of trying to steal the tire of the Bat-mobile.
The kid had a good fighting skill, and Batman noticed, but he knew he was heading in the wrong direction. So, Batman trained him as his new partner.
However, this new introduction didn't make the comics fans happy. The DC editor noticed this and decided to come up with something unusual at that time. He decided to leave the fate of the new Robin to the fans, which is seen in the story-line "A Death in the Family."
The animated film was more of a story created by the fans about Robin and Batman splitting as a duo. Robin headed to the Middle East on a mission to find his birth mother. Batman, on the other hand, was going after the Joker, who had recently escaped and had acquired a nuclear bomb in Lebanon.
It leads to the two reuniting again as they try to solve both story-lines.
In the process of finding out his birth mother, Robin crosses paths with the Joker, and he was captured and tortured for days.
Even though Batman found out Robin was tortured, he didn't have enough time to stop the Joker from blowing up the warehouse. The bomb killed Robin.
The readers voted the decision for the Robin to die. However, if you have watched Under the Red Hood, you know about Robin's fate.
The Upcoming New Death in the Family
The interactive is a callback to the 80's interactive event, where the fans determine the fate of Robin through voting. A significant section of the fans voted for the Robin to be brutally beaten by the Joker and blown up.
Robin’s Death is a dark milestone that shapes Batman's world until he was resurrected as a violent vigilante called Red Hood, one of the main characters in DC Comics.
The interactive presentation offers many different ways for the fans to tell the story, with many turns and twists in the middle. It also lets the viewers decide on the many possible endings. The viewer's decision carries more weight when it comes to the choices made about the film, which results in better stories.
The Death in the Family provides an inventive take on a long-demanded story, written, produced, and directed by Brandon Vietti.
In the trailer, the infamous murder of the Robin will be undone. Also, the destinies of the Joker, Robin, Batman will play out in unexpected new ways, as the viewers choose multiple options to control the story.
While the 2010's Under the Red Hood Batman movie offers a baseline, the story will branch in new directions and feature new characters that were not in the original film.
You will be offered the choices offered to the readers in 1988 plus more options that enable you to change the story. So, you can play things the way it had been done or choose something else. For instance, you can choose to let Robin die and then return as Red Hood, or you can select a story where Robin lives and eventually become Red hood or something else. Deciding on the fate of the best Batman's story-lines is the beauty of the DC interactive.
The DC is trying to ensure that nothing seems out of place, and they have brought back some voice actors from the Under the Red Hood, which includes John DiMaggio as the Joker, Vincent Martella as the Robin, and Bruce Greenwood as the Batman.
The Death in the Family will also have other short animated films from the DC Universe to make up for the shorter runtime. The previously released The Phantom, Adam strange, Death and. Sgt. Rock will also be included in the set.
There are a lot of choices to make, and each has its consequences.
This year has been amazing when it comes to new animated movies from DC. The next animated film from DC is Superman's movie Man of Tomorrow, which features a different perspective on the original story of Man of Steel. It will be released on Digital HD on August 23 on DVD, and Blue-ray, and 4k Ultra HD on September 8.
The chances are that the Death in the Family would follow up that in around fall 2020.
